Ibn Battuta was a great 14th-Century traveler: a discoverer and a marveller filled with promiscuous curiosity, as travelers should be. This is not a site about him so much as his spirit. Photographs of the Middle East and Africa by Christopher and friends. (c) Christopher Dickey

Assilah, Morocco, 15-17 July 2010
Assilah, less than an hour's drive from Tangier, is one of Morocco's gems. It's also lucky to be the home town of former Foreign Minister Mohamed Benaissa, who has organized a world famous cultural festival there every summer for 32 years. In fact, there's much more to it than culture. It goes on for most of the month and it's like a relaxed Davos, with dignitaries flying in from every part of the planet to spend a day or two participating in panels discussing global issues, attending concerts, dining with friends and strolling on the beach.
